1931 Allis Chalmers Original round Baler

Portage La Prairie

Restored and donated by Gilbert Vust Details: The round hay bale concept was invented by Ummo F. Luebben of Lincoln Nebraska, patent #972884 on October 18, 1910. He developed first a stationary model and then field models. Approximately 50 units of this model, the “Rotary Windrow Baler”, were sold in the mid-thirties. This is a working moel and last baled in Nov, 1997. At least 6 of these balers still exist, Leubben sold all rights to Allis Chalmers in 1940.
